The Warriors will play Zambia in back-to-back friendly matches as part of preparations for World Cup and African Nations Cup qualifiers starting in June – probably the only friendly matches
before the qualifiers.
IndependentSport gathered this week that the Warriors should leave for Zambia this weekend to play a friendly match on Wednesday in Lusaka. The reverse fixture has been scheduled for May 16 in Harare.
There are fears that these would be the only matches the team is likely play before the qualifiers begin in June.
Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) chairman Rafiq Khan confirmed on Wednesday that the Warriors are set to leave for Zambia this weekend.
“The team leaves this weekend and plays Zambia on Wednesday in Lusaka. The reverse friendly match will be played in Harare on May 16.”
Khan said the association is also working on organising a friendly match with the Pharoahs of Egypt.
Zifa has for a long time been promising to firm up the friendly against Egypt but without coming up with anything tangible. The soccer governing body two weeks ago announced that the Pharaohs were going to play the Warriors this weekend in Harare.
