In an interview with Standardsport, Under-18 Zimbabwe Tennis coach Prince Madema said morale was high in the camp as the country boasts of some of the highly ranked players on the continent.
“We have better players than our counterparts, which is a psychological boost on its own,” Madema said.
Madema used two ITF grading projects held last year as part of the tournament’s preparations.
“It was not the kind of preparations that we expected due to some reasons beyond our control hence we had to use the ITF tournaments that were held in Tunisia and Kenya in December 2011 as part of our preparations,” he said.
There are no big injury worries except for Valeria Bhunu who was injured in Nairobi during the ITF grading tournament, who is expected to be well before the tournamnet kicks off. Madema is expecting stiff competition from countries such as South Africa, Egypt, Tunisia and Morocco who have good structures historically and produce good players.
