Gunners, Chipangano share spoils

Gunners and Hwange shared a goal apiece in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match at Lafarge on Saturday.
The hosts escaped a possible upset when Valentine Ndaba beat the halftime whistle to cancel Francisco Zikumbawire’s 17th minute opener for Hwange.

After gaining only a point, both teams did not move from their respective positions on the log, but the situation is worrisome for Gunners who remain one place above the relegation zone with 18 points, while Hwange are on eighth spot.

Chipangano played the last 23 minutes with 10 men after defender Eric Chipeta was shown a straight red card by referee Norman Matemera for a double-foot lunge on Ismael Lawe.
But Gunners would feel let down by their defenders whose errors gifted Hwange a goal.

A miscued stylish attempt to clear the ball just outside the 18 area box by Pardon Chinungwa saw the ball falling on under pressure Blessing Sande whose poor back pass was intercepted by Zikumbawire who then slotted home past an advancing Stephen Chimusoro in goals for Gunners.

The visitors surrendered their lead a minute into the first half’s extra time when Ndaba connected with his head Willard Gondo’s cross from the right.

Gunners coach thanks Tengwe had this to say: “I am disappointed with the way my boys played. We should have won the match but we will continue working hard until positive results come,” Tengwe said.
