Harare City out to avoid early exit

ZIMBABWE representatives in the CAF Confederations Cup, Harare City, will leave no stone unturned in their quest to brush aside AS Adema in the second leg of the preliminary stage when the two collide at Mahamasina Stadium Antananarivo, Madagascar this afternoon.

Harare City carry a slender 3-2 lead away to Madagascar after Ronald Chitiyo and Raphael Manuvire scored for the hosts at Rufaro two weeks ago before the visitors pulled two goals back and promised to finish the job at their own backyard in the reverse fixture.

Harare City left Harare via Johannesburg with 20 players on Wednesday morning and safely arrived in Madagascar.
Taurai Mangwiro’s men face an uphill task against a club that carries two away goals, but a 1-0 victory will be enough for the country’s representatives to sail through to the next round.

While taking caution, Mangwiro is, however, positive of returning home with good result.

“We might have made life difficult for ourselves by conceding two goals at home, but I am confident we will go through to the next round. We just need to be composed and hold on to our lead,” Mangwiro said.

“The players know the kind of task we are facing. Obviously, AS Adema will try to come fast and hard on us from the first whistle to cancel our lead. But we are aware of that and we should not give them that chance. We will also not engage the defensive gear. We will try to attack them as well to make the aggregate score line healthy for us so that we do not put ourselves under pressure for the rest of the match.”

Mangwiro has in his team Manuvire, who turned saviour in the first leg and the pint-sized Chitiyo, who scored the opening goal.

However, his biggest undoing is the absence of defence pillar Crispen Dickson, who had a problem with his passport which is due to expire in May. He did not qualify for a Malagasy visa which is granted to persons whose passports are valid within the next six months of visa application.
