CHAPUNGU stunned champions Chicken Inn, registering a rare home win at Ascot Stadium yesterday to continue their solid start to the season. An own goal by Thabani Goredema and a 60th minute strike by Allen Tavarwisa sandwiched veteran striker Obadiah Tarumbwa’s goal to give the hosts maximum points.

Chapungu head coach John Nyikadzino was relieved after collecting maximum points at home.

“It is a relief after having gone for two matches without a win at home. I want to thank the executive and fans for standing by me when we were struggling,” said Nyikadzino. Chicken Inn assistant coach Thulani Sibanda said they lost a match they were supposed to have won.

“Our players thought this was an easy match, but they found it was tough. Chapungu played well, but we deserved to win this match,” said Sibanda. Chapundu started brightly getting into the lead in the sixth minute when Goredema turned the ball into his own net in an attempt to clear a cross from Xolan Ncube.

The champions, who were lively going foward, equalised in the 14th minute through Tarumbwa, who connected a pass from Darrly Nyandoro. Tavarwisa restored the lead in the 60th minute with a wonder strike when he was fed inside the box by Mhlanga.

Meanwhile, at Boabab Stadium Ngezi Platinum continued their revival under Tonderai Ndiraya with a 1-0 win over ZPC Kariba.
