The hosts scored in either side of halftime through Allen Tavarwisa and Raymond Sibanda to ensure maximum points.

The visitors came into the duel among the leading pack on the rankings and were confident with a positive return that they have never failed to score in any of their away matches this season.

But Chicken Inn never looked like threatening the Chapungu defence, save for few trickery in midfield by veteran Clemence Matawu.

For the hosts, the result owes a lot to the creative brilliance of midfielder Ian Nyoni who weighed in with two assists.

His first feed was directed to combative forward Tavarwisa who slotted the opening goal four minutes before the interval.

Midway through the second half, Nyoni flighted a cross into the path of roving left back Sibanda who responded in emphatic style and gave an exposed Elvis Chipezeze in goal for Chicken Inn no chance.

Former Warriors and now Chicken Inn coach Rahman Gumbo snubbed journalists after the match and sent his number two Julias Ndlovu.

“We could have played another hour and failed to score. We were never in the game,” Ndlovu said.

Winning coach Tendai Chikuni lauded his charges for a good performance before paying tribute to his former boss Gumbo.

“We have youngsters like Ian who are really hungry and I want to appreciate the good work the guys have done so far. We are in the right direction but we are not there yet,” said Chikuni.

“It was difficult to play against him [Gumbo]. For me, he is like a father and I am what I am today because of him.”
