Pathisa Nyathi fails to locate his 2018 Xhosa Community award

BY SHARON SIBINDI

Renowned educationist, poet, playwright, historian and biographer Pathisa Nyathi says he is yet to locate his award given to him in 2018 by the Xhosa communit.     Dethroned Chief Nhlanhlayemagwe Ndiweni reportedly received the award from Prince Solengwe Tshawe on behalf of Nyathi in 2018 at Ntabazinduna.

“I haven’t received my award which was presented to me in 2018. We were talking about it on radio recently. I don’t know how it came up. I said that the award I got from Tshawe till now I haven’t received it,” Nyathi told Standard Style.

“Tshawe was asking me two weeks back if I had received it, then I told him that the person who got it on my behalf has not given it to me.”

Nyathi said up to now the person who got the award had not communicated with him or alerted him about the award.

“We still want it. I don’t know why I am supposed to go and look for it. The person was supposed to tell me …” he said.

“I could have driven to collect it, I haven’t received any form of communication from the person.”

Nyathi said the award was about him featuring in the team of writing about the Xhosa community in Zimbabwe and, how they came into this country.

“I even profiled some of them in a way that they acknowledged that role that I had to play in highlighting their history, culture and it’s quite a lot,” he said

Ndiweni’s spokesperson Nothiwani Dlodlo said Nyathi should go and collect the award at Chief Khayisa’s place.

“If he knows that his award was given to uBaba uNdiweni, he was supposed to go to his home.

UBaba uKhayisa has an open—door policy, his gate is always opened. Even if political people come and demonstrate to an extent of removing clothes, he has never closed his door,” Dlodlo said.

“He has to go and collect it unless if he is now a political agent who wants to tarnish Ndiweni’s image.”

Dlodlo said Ndiweni has been in the United Kingdom since last year.
