CHICKEN INN… 0
FC PLATINUM… (3) 3
FC Platinum stormed to the top of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League following a demolition of fellow title challengers Chicken Inn at Luveve Stadium yesterday to extend their winning streak to five matches.
A brace by Walter Musona and a goal by Nomore Chinyerere in the first half were all that the Zvishavane platinum miners needed to secure yet another win, which took their season tally to 40 points, two clear of second-placed Chicken Inn.
FC Platinum seized control of the match from the onset as they took the lead as early in the second minute when Musona pounced on a deflection from fellow striker Juan Mutudza to beat Chicken Inn goalkeeper Pride Zendera from inside the penalty box.
Mutudza became the supplier again on the half-hour mark with Musona coming to the end of his cross to register his second goal of the afternoon.
Four minutes before the break, defender Nomore Chinyerere, rode on a build-up from the rear and unleashed a long-range cracker that beat Zendera.
It was Chicken Inn’s first defeat at home and their third of the season.
FC Platinum coach Norman Mapeza was ecstatic.
“It was a massive result for us. The guys worked so hard from the first minute to the last. We were in control of everything. We were playing against a quality team and the result could have gone either way. We have been working hard. We have not been talking too much, but working hard,” Mapeza said.
His counterpart Joey Antipas was disappointed with his team’s performance.
“We played against a good side.
“We dug our own grave. In the first half those goals could have been prevented. There was too much lapse in concentration and if you make such mistakes as those you get punished. We will try and rectify our mistakes. We were panicky and jittery on the ball,” Antipas said.
